ACMI — Maritime STEM Programs and Boat Donations

The American Center for Maritime Innovation (ACMI) is the maritime program of the American Center for Aviation Innovation, Inc. (AMCAI), a Miami 501(c)(3) public charity. AMCAI is the legal entity and does business as ACMI for its maritime work, so a single gift supports both programs.

ACMI connects students to ocean innovation and sustainability through hands-on work in:

Marine navigation and environmental systems
Oil spill response and artificial reef projects
Maritime engineering foundations

Students take on real problems — designing an artificial reef, working through a simulated oil spill response — in project-based STEM labs. Through our partnership with American High School Academy, a Cognia®-accredited and NCAA-approved private school, students in grades 6–12 can earn academic credit and reach technical training and industry certifications.

Donate a boat or marine equipment

We welcome donated vessels and marine equipment that can be put to work in student programs. Our Floating STEM Lab vessel is a donated 2007 Sea Fox 21-foot Open Fisherman. It has no outboard at present, so it cannot operate until one is fitted.

What we can use now:

A serviceable outboard engine compatible with the Sea Fox, with rigging and controls
Safety equipment, life jackets, navigation and marine electronics
Kayaks, paddles and shore-based equipment for on-water learning
Trailer, storage and haul-out support
A usable donated vessel suited to student training

Before we can accept an engine

We need to confirm shaft length, engine weight against the vessel’s transom rating, and rigging and control compatibility. Email admin@amcai.org and we will send the vessel details and the current needs list before anything is shipped or collected.
